There is a developing water crisis in the UK with the National Audit office estimating that by 2032 there will be just enough water for everyone and by 2036 there will be more people than water available if nothing is done to reduce consumption.*

Water companies continue to work to inform the public of the need to reduce water wastage, but despite this, per capita consumption figures (each person’s daily usage) continue to rise. The impacts of the water crisis are becoming more apparent with hosepipe bans becoming ever more prevalent and some areas falling into ‘water neutrality’ zones.
Whilst the installation of water efficient fixtures and fittings into new buildings is going some way to reducing consumption, large scale gains can only be achieved by retrofitting the existing housing stock with water efficiency devices as it is estimated that 80% of the total building stock in 2050 has already been built.
