Cenergist Supports Regional Job Growth & Net-Zero Goals With New Leeds Office

28 Oct 2021

Washington, UK – 28th October 2021 – Cenergist, a leading energy and water services company, has today announced that it has opened an office and depot in Leeds, Milshaw Industrial Estate, following a period of strong growth for the organisation. Providing a boost to local employment opportunities, in part driven by successfully developing a partnership with Leeds City Council. Cenergist is delivering two major programmes of decarbonisation activity for the council.

The move into Leeds has created new roles in the green economy including Engineers, Project Managers and Construction Professionals. Cenergist now employs 26 staff within Leeds, with the view to creating further job opportunities in the near future. The new office and depot will also allow Cenergist to better support Leeds City Council in their ongoing projects.

Leeds’ Clustering for Warmth Initiative is an ongoing project that started in 2021 and is expected to reach a value of £24 million by 2023. It will provide for the removal of old inefficient electric heating systems, which will be replaced with the installation of Ground Source Heat Pump technology to 1450 homes in 26 high rise blocks. The project extracts heat from the ground and compresses it using a heat pump in each flat. In turn, it will create annual carbon savings of c 1,500 tCO2 and deliver better quality heating and hot water, and lower bills.

Cenergist is also supporting the council in its own public building decarbonisation activity. The £14m project involves Cenergist installing Commercial Air Source Heat Pumps and water flow control devices in over 30 buildings. The work supports a wider £25m programme which will reduce carbon emissions from public buildings by 4,000 tCO2.

Alex Brown, Operations Director at Cenergist said: ”We have created new roles in the green economy including Engineers, Project Managers and Construction Professionals. We are utilising local trades and merchants to create further jobs and apprenticeships wherever possible in the city. In addition, we envisage the creation of further labouring jobs which will be pro-actively promoted to the local community. We ensure that all suppliers and subcontractors pay at least the real living wage for their staff. The opening of our office demonstrates our commitment to working with Leeds City Council to support it in delivering its ambitious decarbonisation plans for the city”.

Leader of Leeds City Council, Cllr James Lewis visited the official opening of the office on the 27th October 2021 and said: “As I prepare to attend COP26 in Glasgow, I am proud to be representing a city and council already doing so much to become a carbon-neutral city.

“Taking bold steps to cut our emissions is not only the best thing we can do to protect ourselves and others from a changing climate but it is also the best strategy for Leeds to prosper from the economic opportunities of a greener world.

“When we invest in local low carbon projects, we help businesses like Cenergist to invest in and upskill local workers. It was great to meet some of the new Leeds team at their Beeston office recently and hear what their roles mean to them.

“As well as helping to create green jobs like these today through our investment, we’re also working with schools during COP26 to raise awareness of some of these essential careers and inspire the skilled workers of our future.
